Having goals and dreams is a huge part of who we are. But achieving those goals is another thing. What you need is the right mindset and strategy. In this blog, I want to share why having a right strategy is absolutely essential when pursuing your goals and dreams. Let’s get started!
Ambitious, driven people often get overwhelmed by setting goals, especially in the new year. It is easy to be swept up by New Year’s mania, and you easily drown in disappointment. Whether you have set your heart this year on mastering a new language, starting a healthier lifestyle, getting into your dream school, or losing 3 pounds by next month, everything is achievable if you have the right mindset and strategies.
I am about to share this simple three-step guide to goal setting. This will certainly help you achieve more with less.
Strategy 1. Write down all the things that you want to accomplish on a notepad.
There are hundreds of things that you want to accomplish. But your thoughts run around in your head, and to get clarity, you have to stop thinking. Write them down on a piece of paper. This may sound very basic, but you’d be surprised how many people don’t do this regularly. While you do this, consider the following three questions when setting each goal.
Yourself - How will achieving this goal help you become a better human being?
Your relationships - Think about the most important people in your life and see what new goals you need to do with your loved ones. What improvements do you want to make in relationships that require time and effort?
Your career or business - what are some of your major projects in terms of your professional life? ex) write a book, CV, do more networking
Get everything out of your head and onto your page. Do this exercise often. You will feel more at peace and assured once you write everything down and get massive energy and motivation.
Strategy 2. Sift your list.
Ambitious people often take on too many projects and have too many goals. The point of setting goals is actually to achieve those goals. Instead of focusing on too many trivial things, focus down. Sift your list and take out the most critical goals to give you the highest, most meaningful reward for this year. Again, consider the following three questions.
What is the payoff from achieving this project? What’s the impact on you, mentally, physically, and financially?
How does this project ultimately benefit others? People whom you love, families, team, and greater society?
Who will you have to become to make this goal a reality? Think in terms of specific skills, experiences, and character development.
Sometimes the best way to grow is to cut back and prune.
Strategy 3. Create a vision board and track your progress.
A vision board is a fantastic tool used to help focus our ideas, thoughts, and goals. They keep us motivated and inspired to pursue our dreams. Create an inspirational vision board. But you will also have to think about how to practically achieve these “visions” and goals. Some of the following templates are great starting points. They encourage us to get creative and build up our vision board. Why not display it in your room and add inspirational pictures, quotes, and fun to-do lists?
